DUI and Traffic Offenses

Not only are traffic tickets irritating, they are also costly and inconvenient. More troubling even than the heavy fines that can result, however, are the points that will be assigned to your driving record. If your driving record accumulates too many points your driver’s license will likely be suspended. Another blow occurs to your pocketbook when the court reports your driving record to your insurance causing your rates to go up for a number of years after the ticket. Paying the ticket does not solve the problem and often compounds things as you are readily admitting that you are guilty. Even if you are cout red handed you should consider taking the time and effort to contest your ticket because pleading guilty means points will be assigned to your license and the insurance consequences can last for years.

In Pennsylvania, traffic tickets that include reckless driving can result in criminal charges as well and may result in jail time. With a DUI/DAIdrunk driving charge, you could go to jail and get your license suspended. Don’t take the chance!

No matter what kind of traffic ticket you have received, it is worth your time and money to contest it. Having an attorney on your side can increase your chances of dismissal and keep your insurance rates down.Email or call me at (610) 272-5859.

Pennsylvania now has a tougher DAI drunk driving law
In 2004, Pennsylvania enacted stringent laws for Driving Under the Influence (DUI), which is now referred to as Driving after Imbibing (DAI). Some of the more substantive changes are:

Lowering the legal limit for alcohol in the system from.10 to.08 percent blood-alcohol
An.08 percent or above blood-alcohol level, at the time of a test, is sufficient evidence for a conviction
Adopted zero tolerance for any illegal drugs in your system, including prescription drugs not prescribed to you
Stiffer penalties, including more jail time, longer Driver’s License suspensions, and higher fines
Criminal charges can become more serious for repeat DUI / DAI offenders
Did you know that under Pennsylvania law, repeat offenses may be charged as gross misdemeanors or felonies? Contact Paul Roath I offer a free initial consultation.

Another consequence being convicted of DUI / DAI drunk driving is higher insurance rates. According to Insure.com, “higher rates and…policy cancellation or nonrenewal,” are possible consequences of having a DUI / DAI conviction.
